Check out Microsoft's Redmond campus revamp in augmented reality

Microsoft recently announced it is in the process of giving its Redmond, Washington campus a major facelift with a construction project set to start in earnest in fall 2018. But while we'll have to wait until the project's completion in the next five to seven years to see the end result in person, a recently discovered app will let you take an early peek at some of the changes in augmented reality.

Initially spotted by Microsoft watcher WalkingCat on Twitter, Reveille is a Microsoft augmented reality app that gives you a rendered birds-eye view of the changes being made to the Redmond campus. All that's required is to install the app on a Windows device or Android (there's supposed to be an iOS app as well, but it doesn't look to be available at the moment), as well as a companion PDF with a special pattern used by the app.

Once you open the app, you simply point the camera at the pattern on the printed PDF or on your screen, and you'll see an AR view of Microsoft's campus from above. Tapping the "+" icon in the corner will then overlay the new campus changes over the current campus so you can see how things will change.

Of course, if you'd rather not go through all of that trouble, you can get a preview of what's coming in the video released alongside Microsoft's original announcement, embedded below. Still, it's a neat little app for displaying some of what Microsoft is doing with its main campus over the next several years.
