Long-awaited 'Below' runs at 4K 60 FPS on Xbox One X, aiming for 2018 launch

Below was initially teased close to the original Xbox One's reveal, and since then has been delayed numerous times. Recently, the developer said that it would "go dark" until the team had more information to share. Well, it seems like that day has arrived after all these months.

In an interview between Capybara Games and Engadget, more details about the project were revealed. Creative director Kris Piotrowski said the following when asked about a concrete release date.

I still can't say the exact date, but we are aiming for this year − although we've said that over and over, so. We have all the systems in place and now we're kind of going deeper and deeper through the world, and polishing and trying to just get it all packaged up... It's one of the few benefits of spending so long, a new television resolution has appeared in our development.

Engadget was able to confirm that the game now runs at 4K resolution and 60 FPS on the Xbox One X. This is a significant leap for the visuals because this means that the game should look crisp even on 4K displays. Upscaling 1080p images gives games a blurry appearance.

Below is a top-down roguelike game which focuses on exploration and melee combat. You're tasked with exploring a network of underground areas as you acquire better gear. However, death is permanent and once you're killed, you have to start the game from the beginning. The more you play, the more you learn, and can hopefully complete the game on your next attempt. The game is an Xbox One console exclusive also in development for PC.
